Listen On: iTunes | Google Play | Stitcher | Spotify

When faced with an all too common decision to stay home with her new baby or return to a fast-paced and demanding career that she loved, my guest today knew there had to be a way to have both. Shannon Miles is an advocate for people to have the career and flexibility they crave to keep their priorities in a healthy order. She is the CEO and co-founder of Belay, a staffing company that serves businesses all over the U.S.

In order to have both the time with her child and the career she wanted, she created the idea of “the third option.” She wrote a book about it called The Third Option: Why a Woman Doesn’t Have to Choose Between a Career and Family, but Can Actually Have Both and Succeed. She helps women figure out if that will work for them through the book and her website.

Today, we talk about:

  • What the third option is and the story behind it

  • Why it doesn’t have to be either staying at home or working

  • What the transition is like when you step out of your full-time job

  • How she and her husband were able to pay down their debt and figure out the space to be able to say yes to the third option

  • What Belay is and how it helps women choose the third option

  • The one thing you can do this week if you’re feeling the pull towards the third option and want to make it a reality
